Establishment

The Archdiocese of Atlanta was established on February 21, 1962, by Pope John XXIII, when the Diocese of Atlanta was elevated to an archdiocese.

Geography

The Archdiocese of Atlanta encompasses 69 counties in north and central Georgia, including but not limited to Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, and Cobb counties.

Mother Church

The cathedral and mother church of the archdiocese is the **Cathedral of Christ the King**, located in Atlanta, Georgia.

Leadership

The current archbishop is **Gregory John Hartmayer, O.F.M. Conv.**, who was appointed by Pope Francis on March 5, 2020.
