Introduction to Saintapedia
Saintapedia is an online wiki dedicated to information about saints with Semantic mediawiki capabilities. It serves as an encyclopedia or a comprehensive resource for details about saints.
While Saintapedia aims to be a factual repository, the nature of wiki platforms means that the depth, accuracy, and breadth of information can vary based on contributions. Always good to cross-reference religious or historical facts with authoritative sources if precision is needed.
- Help you understand that a wiki is only as good as we make it and the most important thing you can do is add what you know. As your schedule allows, participation in gardening is also appreciated.
- Help you become more comfortable with Saintapedia.

Basic concepts
Question - How do you know when someone else made a change to a page you have edited?
- Saintapedia is organized by topic. The easiest way to find information on a topic is through searching or by following a link from a related topic article.
- Saintapedia articles, as much as possible, should link to related Saintapedia articles.
- No one owns any article in Saintapedia. Since any editor can improve the contents of a page (fixing grammar, adding a link, etc.), every editor is encouraged to change articles when they see a way it can be improved.
- Every edit is tied to an individual editor.
- Every version of every article can be seen in the Article history. The Watchlist and Email reminders can also help you keep on top of content updates.
- Any change can be un-done by any editor.
- Be Bold in editing! - Since there is a complete version history and it is easy to revert to previous versions, the wiki cannot really be damaged by any editor.
- Articles are never finished because the Department is continually evolving and changing.

Introduction to editing
This content is being shown from Help:Editing Saintapedia#VisualEditor.
Editing most Saintapedia pages is simple.
|
VisualEditor
VisualEditor (VE) is a simplified tool to edit Saintapedia that allows you see the effect of any change immediately on the page (commonly referred to as What You See Is What You Get). It does not require editors to use the Editing toolbar to learn wikitext to edit existing content.
Editing articles purely in wikitext is and will remain an option using the enhanced editor and editing toolbar. This may be the preference for experienced editors because they might find it faster and more precise. Even editors who enable VisualEditor will have the wikitext option available from the toolbar for each page and section.
Editing demonstration
The instructor will demonstrate how to do the following in his or her sandbox using VisualEditor:
- Bold and italicize text
- break up a page by adding section headings and allow for the creation of the Table of contents
- bullets and numbered lists
- How to add internal links or external links (Help:Visual editor#Links)
Edit source/Enhanced editor
This content is being shown from Help:Editing Saintapedia#Edit source/Enhanced editor.
Editors also have the option to use the older, but more precise Enhanced editor by clicking on "Edit source." This will bring you to a new page with a text box containing the editable text of the current page.
- In the text box in the new page, you can type in the text that you want to add to the page.
- The Editing Toolbar above the text box can help with formatting as well as adding sections and links.
- A cheat sheet has been developed to be a quick reference to wikitext and you can can always return to this help page by clicking 'Editing help', found near the 'save page' button.
When you have finished editing, you should write a short edit summary in the small field below the edit-box.
- To see how the page looks with your edits, press the Show preview button.
- To see the differences between the page with your edits and the previous version of the page, press the Show changes button.
- If you're satisfied with what you see, be bold and press the "Save page" button.
Your changes will immediately be visible to all Saintapedia users. If you made a mistake, you can always undo your changes. Saintapedia also has a way for you to keeping track of changes to a page.
