Historic editors are those editors whose email addresses become inactive. The primary means of determining inactivity is when emails bounce back. Please see Saintapedia:Historic content for ways to archive other historic content.

Steps

  1. Identify a Historic editor
    • user emails us to let us know they are leaving
    • a process is run to identify non-functional email addresses
    • Other processes
  2. Add the {{Historic editor}} template along with a date to their user page. Example: {{Historic editor|date=12 September, 2024}}. This will also categorize the user page into Category:Historic editors.
  3. A sysadmin must then go to Special:Block and block the user indefinitely using the following settings as shown in the image on the right.
    Block user dialog.jpg
    • Enter the username
    • Set expiry to "infinite"
    • Leave reason as "Other reason"
    • Provide a description of the reason
    • Make sure each of the radial buttons is deselected since this action is not, by default, being taken punitively. If the action is punitive, then selecting one or more of these items may be appropriate.
    • Click block user

Unblocking

If a user returns and wishes to restore their account, go to Special:BlockList, find their username and click unblock. Enter a reason why they are being unblocked.

Then, remove the banner from their user page and inform them their account is ready to be used again.
