History

St. Ambrose Church was founded in 1966 to serve the expanding Catholic population on Tucson’s east side, during a period of growth in southern Arizona. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson, established in 1897, created the parish to meet the spiritual needs of the East Tucson Deanery, naming it after Saint Ambrose, a Doctor of the Church known for his eloquence and contributions to liturgy. The parish’s early years focused on building the church and establishing core ministries to foster community and faith formation.[1]

Over the decades, St. Ambrose has developed a range of ministries, including the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which provides assistance to those in need, and religious education programs for children and adults.[1] The parish offers daily Masses, with schedules including Monday through Friday at 8:00 AM, and weekend Masses on Saturday at 5:00 PM and Sunday at 7:30 AM, 9:30 AM, and 11:30 AM, some of which are live-streamed for accessibility.[2] Confession is available on Saturdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, and Eucharistic adoration is offered on the first Friday of each month, enhancing the parish’s spiritual offerings.[2]
