Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church was founded in 1958 by Bishop Francis Hyland, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Atlanta. Reverend Monsignor Cornelius Maloney was appointed as its first pastor, who was instrumental in establishing the original church, rectory, and school. Starting with 350 registered households and a school population of 237, the parish experienced significant growth, expanding to 1,200 households within a decade. Over the years, the parish has undergone numerous expansions and modernizations, reflecting the growth of both the parish community and the local Catholic population. In 2008, a new sanctuary was constructed and dedicated in 2009 by Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory.
