History
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Enola, Pennsylvania, was established in 1929 to serve the Catholic community on the West Shore of the Susquehanna River. As part of the Diocese of Harrisburg, the parish has grown alongside the town of Enola, which itself was named after a railroad classification yard. The parish's establishment was a response to the increasing Catholic population in the area, primarily due to the expansion of the railroad industry and subsequent residential development.[1]
The church building, located on Salt Road, has undergone several renovations and expansions to accommodate the growing congregation. Our Lady of Lourdes has been a center for Catholic worship, community events, and religious education for over 90 years. The parish is known for its dedication to the Marian devotion, particularly to Our Lady of Lourdes, offering various Marian devotions like the Rosary and special Masses on Marian feast days.[2]
The parish does not have its own school but supports religious education through programs aimed at all ages, fostering a community where faith education is a priority. Our Lady of Lourdes also engages in various ministries, from social outreach to liturgical groups, reflecting its commitment to both spiritual and community service.[3]
Our Lady of Lourdes Parish has maintained a strong presence in Enola, providing Mass services, sacraments, and community activities. Notable events include the annual festival, which unites parishioners and neighbors in celebration and fundraising for parish initiatives. The parish's history reflects its role as a spiritual and social anchor in the community.[4]
