History

Holy Family Catholic Church in Holy Cross, Alaska, has been under the patronage of the Holy Family since 1929. The village of Holy Cross was one of the earliest sites for Catholic missionary work in Alaska, with Jesuits establishing a mission here in the late 19th century. The original church, a beautiful wooden frame structure, was completed in 1906 and served the community for over 60 years until it was torn down in 1969 due to severe disrepair. A new church was built in 1989, reflecting the community's commitment to maintaining their faith. The parish has been served by visiting priests from various parts of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta, reflecting the broader strategy of the Diocese of Fairbanks to cope with the shortage of clergy in remote areas.[1][2]

Special features
