Washington Closure Hanford, LLC operated as a joint venture between URS Corporation, Bechtel Group Inc, and CH2M Hill Companies Ltd. The Company manages the River Corridor Closure Project for the U.S. Department of Energy. Washington Closure Hanford removes river contaminants in the state of Washington.

Located on the 586-square-mile Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state, the 220-square-mile River Corridor comprises the outer edge of the Hanford Site, including major portions of the Hanford Reach National Monument.

Washington Closure Hanford was a limited liability company owned by URS, Bechtel and CH2M Hill.[1]

Company history with DOE

  • Washington Closure was selected by DOE to manage the project in August 2005. The contract ran through September 2015. It managed the $2.3 billion, 10-year River Corridor Closure Project for the U.S. Department of Energy.
  • CH2M HILL Plateau Remediation Company (CH2M) assumed the River Corridor Closure Contract scope when Washington Closure Hanford's (WCH) in 2016.[2]
  • The company was responsible for protecting the Columbia River by cleaning up 578 waste sites, demolishing 324 buildings, placing two plutonium production reactors and one nuclear facility in interim safe storage, and operating the Environmental Restoration Disposal Facility.
