Template:Stub noticeThe Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual Working Group (MARSSIM Workgroup) is an ongoing, collaborative effort to bring consistency to the methods and processes used to demonstrate compliance with federal and state radiation regulations.
DOE's role
The Office of Environment, Health, Safety and Security participates on behalf of DOE.
Mission
The mission of the Workgroup is to provide technical processes and methods, which are accepted and endorsed across the Federal government and State governments, that regulators and users of radioactivity can use to measure radioactivity to demonstrate compliance with regulatory criteria.
Members
Workgroup members represent the four federal entities that have the primary responsibility for managing radioactive materials:
- Department of Defense (DOD)
- Department of Energy (DOE)
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
- Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC)
Manuals
Since its inception in 1995, the Workgroup has developed two significant products:
- Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM)
- Multi-Agency Survey and Assessment of Materials and Equipment (MARSAME)
- Multi-Agency Radiological Laboratory Analytical Protocols Manual
