History
Our Lady of Hope Parish in Coal Township, Pennsylvania, was established in 1995 through the consolidation of St. Stephen and St. Joseph parishes. This unification was part of a broader initiative by the Diocese of Harrisburg to manage resources more effectively and to foster a stronger, unified Catholic presence in areas with declining or shifting populations. The merger marked a new beginning for the Catholic community on Coal Township's west side, bringing together diverse groups under one parish identity.[1]
The parish serves as a beacon of hope and light, named after the Marian title "Our Lady of Hope," symbolizing the community's aspirations for spiritual renewal.
