Microsoft Excel on Wikipedia

Microsoft Excel is a commercial spreadsheet application written and distributed by Microsoft for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. It features calculation, graphing tools, pivot tables, and a macro programming language called Visual Basic for Applications. It is a widely used spreadsheet for these platforms. Excel forms part of Microsoft Office.

Tips

  • You can hide the ribbon/toolbar by:
    1. Double click on one of the ribbon tabs - such as Home, Insert, or Page Layout OR
    1. Press the Ctrl+F1 keys on the keyboard.
  • You can convert multiple text URLs to active URLs in a column next to it using the formula "=HYPERLINK(A1)"[1]
  • Ctrl+~ shows all the formulas on the current worksheet
  • F2 shows the formula for the cell you are on
    • F2 followed by F9 converts a formula to a value. Then press Enter to replace the formula with the value or Esc to keep the formula.

Wiki converter

The Copy and Paste Excel-to-Wiki Converter allows you to copy excel information to wiki text table that can be added to Powerpedia. It's features includes:

  • format first row as header
  • format first column as header
  • use class="wikitable"
  • collapsible
  • sortable
  • collapsed
  • autocollapse

Similarly there is a Word converter that allows you to save your Microsoft Word documents as MediaWiki files with your formatting so they can easy be imported into Powerpedia.

Exporting Graphs as Images

If you save an excel file with graphs as an html file, it will create a sub-folder that includes the graphs as gif and png image files.
