Ohio, known as the Buckeye State due to its Ohio buckeye trees, became the 17th state of the U.S. on March 1, 1803. It is situated in the Midwestern United States, bordered by Michigan and Lake Erie to the north, Pennsylvania to the east, West Virginia and Kentucky to the southeast and south, and Indiana to the west. It's the 34th largest state by area.
