History

Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church was established in Hayesville, North Carolina, in 1955. The first Mass was celebrated in an office above the Hayesville Drugstore by Father Joseph Dean from the Glenmary Missioners. The current church, a 30,000-square-foot facility including a parish hall, was dedicated in 2014. This growth reflects the development of the Catholic community in this rural part of North Carolina, initially serving as a mission of St. William Church in Murphy.[1]

Special features

  • The church hosts Mass in English, with services on Saturday at 4 PM and Sunday at 9 AM, catering to the local Catholic population.[2]
  • The parish is part of the mission outreach to the Cherokee community, though this is primarily associated with St. William in Murphy, its parent parish.
  • The church building itself is a modern structure, designed to accommodate the parish's needs while blending with the natural beauty of the area.
