Workday, Inc., is an American on‑demand (cloud-based) financial management, human capital management, and student information system software vendor. Workday was founded following Oracle's acquisition of PeopleSoft in 2005.[1]In October 2012, Workday launched a successful IPO (initial public offering) that valued the company at $9.5 billion.[2] Competitors of Workday include SAP Successfactors, Ceridian, UKG, and Oracle.[3]

DOE is working to be the first Title V Federal agency to adopt Workday, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution for DOE’s human capital management. Workday will encompass the entire employee lifecycle, from hiring to retiring.

All Departmental Elements will transition to Workday, with Bonneville Power Administration ( BPA) using its Performance and Learning Management modules only. The Workday Learning & Development module will be available to contractors who currently access Learning Nucleus.

Product

In February 2014, Workday acquired the startup Identified and its artificial intelligence Syman to create its Insight Apps line of products. The first products running SYMAN were announced at Workday Rising 2014.

In July 2017, Workday CEO Aneel Bhusri announced that the company had decided to open up its platform to developers, partners and third-party software. As a result, Workday will enter the Platform as a Service (PaaS) market.[7] Bhusri said the move will allow customers to build custom extensions and applications to work with Workday.[8]

In January 2018, Workday announced that it acquired SkipFlag,[9] makers of an AI knowledge base that builds itself from a company's internal communications.[10]

Workday has released 39 updates to its product line as of September 2022, the most recent being "2022 R2". It releases a major update every 6 months, in September and March.

Workday Government Cloud (“WGC”) is an enterprise resource planning solution for financial management, human capital management, financial planning, and analytics.

It is Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) moderate.

Workday Financial Management

Workday Financial Management (“Workday Financials”) functionality includes financial accounting, financial and management reporting, supplier management and reporting, procurement integrations, supplier accounts (accounts payable functions), customer accounts (accounts Page 2 of 9 receivable functions), budget tracking, capital and operational projects tracking, business assets tracking, employee expenses, critical banking & settlement functions, and reporting & dashboarding). [11]

Workday Human Capital Management

Workday Human Capital Management (“Workday HCM”) functionality includes job requisitioning, onboarding of new hires, creating and maintaining of general employee personnel records, reviewing, and approving compensation of employees, managing payroll, storing employee ratings, and time and attendance tracking, and benefits administration.

  • Portland, Oregon;
  • Dublin, Ireland;
  • Amsterdam, Netherlands;

They also use Amazon Web Services for its primary computing infrastructure platforms in order to accelerate its worldwide expansion.[12]
