Bechtel teams, lead by Bechtel National, manage and operate national laboratories in New Mexico and California.

Los Alamos National Laboratory

Located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is managed and operated by Los Alamos National Security (LANS), a partnership led by BNI and University of California, for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration. LANL is responsible for monitoring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, conducting research into new defense programs, and is a center for research in a wide range of scientific disciplines, including space exploration, geophysics, supercomputing, medicine, and nanotechnology. The Bechtel/UC-led team took over management of the laboratory in June 2006.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is managed and operated by Lawrence Livermore National Security (LLNS), a team led by BNI and the University of California, for Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration. One of the premier national laboratories, LLNL focuses on nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship, technology development in support of national security, high-performance computer simulation, and materials and energy research. The BNI/UC-led team assumed management of LLNL in October 2007.

The nuclear components developed and procured by the contractor have been used to power huge aircraft carriers and submarines of all types and sizes.
