History

Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Dawsonville, Georgia, was officially established as a parish in 2006 by Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory. Prior to its official establishment, it began as the Dawsonville Mission in 1982, serving the Catholic community in Dawson County, which was then experiencing significant growth. The parish was initially served by priests from St. Luke Church in Dahlonega until it could support its own pastor. The church's journey to a permanent home included worshipping in various temporary locations, including a public library and the Dawsonville United Methodist Church.

The groundbreaking for their first permanent building was in 2004, and the multi-purpose building was completed by Thanksgiving of that year. However, the need for a larger sanctuary became apparent as the parish grew, leading to the construction of their current church, which was consecrated on the Feast of All Saints, November 1, 2021, by Archbishop Gregory J. Hartmayer. Christ the Redeemer has been known for its community involvement and outreach, including food pantries and various parish activities that strengthen community bonds.[1][2]
