Saint Timothy Catholic Church is a territorial parish in the Diocese of Arlington, located in Chantilly, Virginia. Dedicated to Saint Timothy, the first-century disciple of Saint Paul, bishop of Ephesus, and companion in missionary journeys—venerated in Catholic tradition for his faithfulness, pastoral zeal, and receipt of two Pauline epistles—the parish serves a large suburban community with an emphasis on faith formation, family ministries, and evangelization.
Established in 1984 amid rapid growth in western Fairfax County, the parish initially celebrated Masses in local schools before dedicating its current church in 1991. Saint Timothy Catholic School opened in 2003. The parish has expanded facilities over time, including a recent addition for youth and adult education. As of December 14, 2025, Saint Timothy continues to offer extensive programs, including religious education for thousands of students and active outreach ministries.
The parish community fosters spiritual growth through sacraments, education, and service, reflecting its patron's legacy of discipleship.
History
Saint Timothy Parish was established on July 1, 1984, by Bishop Thomas J. Welsh of the Diocese of Arlington to serve the expanding Catholic population in the Chantilly and Centreville areas.[1] Initial Masses were held at local public schools.
The current church building was dedicated on September 28, 1991.[1] Saint Timothy Catholic School opened in 2003 with grades K-5, later expanding to include middle school.[1]
Growth necessitated further development, including a new wing for religious education and youth ministry completed in recent years.[2]
Special features
- Extensive religious education program serving public school students
- Associated Saint Timothy Catholic School (K-8), promoting academic excellence and faith formation
- Active family and youth ministries, including scouting and sports programs

Relics
According to established Catholic tradition, the main altar, dedicated in 1991, contains deposited relics as is customary in consecrated churches. Specific details regarding the saints associated with these relics are not publicly documented in available sources. This follows common practice where first-class relics, often of martyrs, are sealed within the altar.
Architecture
The church building, dedicated in 1991, features a contemporary design with warm interior tones and ample space for large congregations.[2]
Associated facilities include the school and expanded education wing.
Art and devotional features
Specific details on stained glass windows, statues, sculptures, or other interior artwork are limited in publicly available sources. The church provides a welcoming environment for prayer and communal worship.
