History

Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was established in 1901 by Bishop John W. Shanahan to serve the growing Catholic population in the eastern part of the city. The parish was named after Saint Francis of Assisi, reflecting the ideals of humility, poverty, and love for all creation that he embodied.
