Caloric Materials Consortium, also known as CaloriCoolTM, was sponsored by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy through its Advanced Manufacturing Office. It was led by the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University.
It was established as part of the Energy Materials Network (EMN). The EMN accelerates innovation around the clean energy industry’s most pressing materials challenges from early development stages to manufacturing.
Mission
Caloric materials generate cooling effects when cyclically acted upon by magnetic, electric, or mechanical forces. These materials hold great promise as components of a less expensive, more energy efficient, and environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional vapor compression refrigeration technologies used today. CaloriCool’s mission is to design, develop, and test these materials for adoption into commercial use.
Stakeholders
- Members have subcontracts from the consortium to perform specific research tasks within their area of expertise based on a scope of work and negotiated budget, including cost-share as applicable.
- Associates use the unique capabilities and expertise of the consortium.
- Affiliates are informed about consortium research outcomes and provide input to the consortium.
