I understand the reason behind it. :One of my ideas was to give the CSS class name it's own color so that Navframe would be render <span style="background:#efefef;">Navframe</span> and collapsible would be <span style="background:#ccf;">navbox, collapsible</span>. ::Prior to reading these comments I had a similar idea and made this [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:Navigational_templates&oldid=109358702 edit]. Hopefully it makes the inherited concept more clear by showing the name of the CSS class in a cell background matching that color.
